The State Motto

South Carolina has two mottoes:

(1) DUM SPIRO SPERO, meaning "WHILE I BREATHE I HOPE" and refers to the figure of Hope on the State Seal, and

(2) ANIMIS OPIBUSQUE PARATI meaning "READY IN SOUL AND RESOURCE"
